Newcomers are always welcome at our meetings.
Meetings for Worship are open to everyone. Whatever your background or spiritual beliefs, you will find a warm welcome in our meeting.
The Holme Valley, Holmfirth, Wooldale and surrounding villages have a longstanding nonconformist tradition. Quakerism came to Wooldale in the second half of the 17th century, shortly after its birth. Ever since those days of religious persecution there has been an unbroken Quaker presence. Today you will find an active meeting upholding their traditional values of simplicity, honesty and searching to answer "That of God in every one"
Quaker worship usually lasts an hour and there are no ministers or creeds. We gather together in silence to quieten our minds – we don't have set hymns, prayers or sermons.
In the stillness we open our hearts and minds to new insights and guidance. Sometimes we are moved to share what we discover with those present. We call this 'ministry' and listen to what is said to consider its meaning for us.
You can find us at: Wooldale Meeting House, Pell Lane, Wooldale, Holmfirth HD9 1QL Parking is difficult in Pell Lane so we would recommend parking behind Wooldale Community Centre. See map below. The car park is approx 50yards from Pell Lane Meeting House but permits much safer parking especially for wheelchair users.:
